July 23rd, 2010 “Internationally Acclaimed Pianist to Perform”

Dynamic Ukrainian-American pianist Marina Lomazov will be the guest artist at the 2010 Joseph Pramberger Memorial Concert.  The concert will be at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, August 13 and will include works of Chopin, Rachmaninoff, Debussy and Kapustin.  Praised by critics as “a diva of the piano” (Salt Lake City Tribune), “a mesmerizing risk taker” (Cleveland Plain Dealer) and “simply spectacular” (International Music Foundation, Chicago), Ms. Lomazov has established herself as one of the most passionate and charismatic performers on the concert scene today.

Ms. Lomazov has been awarded top prizes in several of the world’s major piano competitions including the Hilton Head International Piano Competition (First Prize, 1998), Cleveland (Silver Medal), Gina Bachauer (Outstanding Female Performer), and William Kapell (Carmen Sasmore Prize).  She has given performances throughout North America, South America, England, France, Germany, Austria, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Russia, Japan and in most of the fifty states in the United States.  She has appeared with the Boston Pops, Rochester Philharmonic, Graz Hochschulorchester, Ohio Chamber Orchestra, Missouri Chamber Orchestra, South Carolina Philharmonic, and Spokane Symphony Orchestra, to name a few.  She has been featured on the “Bravo” cable channel, and her live performances are broadcast regularly on public radio stations including programs such as National Public Radio’s “Performance Today” and New York’s “Young Artist Showcase.”

Before immigrating to the United States, Ms. Lomazov studied at the Kiev Conservatory where she became the youngest First Prize Winner of the all-Kiev Piano Competition.  Ms. Lomazov holds degrees from the Juilliard School and the Eastman School of Music (Doctor of Musical Arts Degree in Piano Performance and Literature), the latter granting upon her the highly coveted Artist’s Certificate – an honor the institution had not bestowed upon a pianist for nearly two decades.  Her principal teachers include Leonid Lazarevich Fundiler and the late Valery Sagaidachny in the Ukraine and Natalya Antonova, Jerome Lowenthal, and Barry Snyder in the United States.

Together with her husband and duo partner Joseph Rackers, Ms. Lomazov also performs as part of the Lomazov/Rackers piano duo.  In 2005, the duo was awarded the Second Prize at the Sixth Biennial Ellis Competition for Duo Pianists, the only national duo piano competition in the United States at the time.  In 2008, the duo performed with the Savannah Concert Association.

Ms. Lomazov is Associate Professor of Piano at the University of South Carolina School of Music where she also is the founder and artistic director of the Southeastern Piano Festival.

The concert is Messiah Lutheran’s gift to the community.  The church’s nursery will be open and parents are encouraged to enjoy an evening of superb music making while their children are watched over on site.  Tax-deductible contributions are gratefully accepted to help defray costs.  For more information, please call (912) 598-1188 or visit www.messiahsk.com.
